It seems as if only yesterday everyone was updating their WordPress sites to the 3.6.1 update and already we’re fast approaching another. WordPress.org is reporting that 3.7 should be released this week!

While you should always stay on top of your site maintenance, plug-in updates, and general housekeeping, now would be a great time to get your WordPress website in order if you’ve fallen behind.

So what’s in store for the 3.7 update?  A perusal of the WordPress inter-webs tells us that the 3.7 update is focused on SECURITY!  3.7 will be introducing automatic background updates for security and minor releases, i.e. – updating from 3.7 to 3.7.1.

Maintaining an up-to-date WordPress installation is critical in today’s online environment, and now it will be all that much easier.  We’re excited about this aspect of the new release though stay mindful of the prevailing wisdom: regularly back-up your site!  There are some great plug-ins out there that make it a cinch.

Continuing with the security features of 3.7 is a new and improved password strength meter that utilizes Dropbox’s zxcvbn library.  Time to put away the l33t speak and fortify your site with a robust password.  The new strength meter will be able to instantly provide you with a reliable estimation of your password strength.

Other notable changes include improved search results (ordered by relevance as well as date),  new advanced date queries in wp_query (get posts that fall within date ranges), and automatic downloads of language translations.

Okay, got all of that?  Great, because  the next major release is right around the corner.  WordPress 3.8 is scheduled for a December release!
