It’s a new year and that means it is time for a new Global Dialogues Video Challenge!

Who is Global Dialogues you ask?

Global Dialogues, a non-profit established in 1997, seeks “to promote global public health and societal well-being through integrated, youth-driven solutions fueled by creativity and multidisciplinary partnership”. Global Dialogues seeks to bring young people’s stories about global issues to life in short films and theater presentations. Their stories are made available in numerous languages and are freely distributed on the internet and television. The mission of Global Dialogues is to inspire conversation, interaction, and positive social change. Global Dialogues seeks to promote conversation and positive change on global challenges such as living with HIV/AIDS, homosexuality, violence against women, and the use of alcohol and drugs.

So what is this video challenge?

In a nutshell the video challenge works like this: Global Dialogues produces the beginning act of a short film and uploads it to YouTube. After posting the beginning act, young people across the globe compete with one another by creating and uploading videos that finish the story. It’s completely up to the participant on how they would like to resolve the story, though Global Dialogues asks that participants make videos that reflect positive solutions to the problems they face, and ultimately, a vision of a better world.

The winner of the new Spring 2014 video challenge will receive US $2500 dollars and international recognition!

The Spring 2014 video challenge is titled “Sex and Drinking”. The intro scene to the story was shot by Guatemalan filmmaker Sergio Ramirez. Mr. Ramirez made his directorial debut in 2010 with the film “Distancia”. After watching the intro act I was immediately impressed by the professional quality of the film. The lighting was great, the acting solid, and the sub-titles were crisp and legible. Mr. Ramirez was obviously a great choice for 2014’s intro to the Video Challenge.

Take the challenge!

What do you think? Are you up for the challenge? It’s hard to imagine a better way for a young person to express their creativity while also promoting positive social change. You can go it alone or put together a team, learn about film and story-telling, and you’ll have a chance at $2500 dollars!

So put on your creative thinking caps, watch the intro video, and jump on the Global Dialogues 2014 Video Challenge today!
